18th—T.H.A.T. Training—Teen Health Advocate Training
19th – Regional Volunteer Training - I would like to encourage all volunteer leaders and parent volunteers to join us at this meeting. It is possible you could get continuing education credits for it. - Gonzales, LA
22th – Officer Training – 4-H Officers from all schools are invited to attend the training
29th – ALL Enrollment cards must be turned in to the Extension Office via the school leader
         - 4-H meetings will not occur at the school in the months to follow if they are not turned in
30th—LSU—4-H Night with the Tigers vs. Troy State

Welcome Back 4-H Members
We would like to take a minute to welcome you all back to another FUN & EXCITING year in 4-H! For you members just joining 4-H, get ready for good times ahead! We have been working all summer to put together some fun and interesting school programs that we think you will enjoy!! It is important to bring your calendar of events and newsletters home to show your parents so you do not miss the dates for any events! We would love to have you participate in as many 4-H events as possible.
***UPCOMING 4-H EVENTS***
4-H Officer Training
4-H Officers selected for the 2017-2018 school year will be trained on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to Noon at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds. Each club’s President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter and Parliamentarian will be given specific responsibilities about their new offices. 4-H Leaders will also receive training to improve club meetings throughout the year from our state volunteer specialist, Veronica Del Bianco. National 4-H Week
All across America, National 4-H Week is October 1-7, 2017. Your club may choose to celebrate in your school or community. Some suggestions include: Monday - Making signs to display throughout the school or using green and white plastic cups to spell out 4-H Rocks on the school’s fence. Tuesday: Have 4-H Members recite the 4-H pledge during morning announcements. Wednesday: Have a 4-H member’s dress in a green or white or wear your favorite 4-H T-shirt for a free dress fundraiser. Thursday: Bring green drink (Kool-Aid) to the teacher’s lounge. Friday: Bring a 4-H (green & white) cake to the teachers’ lounge.
4-H Pet Show
Bring your pets, big and small, to the Annual 4-H Pet Show! The only pets you can NOT bring are livestock animals. There will be a best dressed animal and owner category, best trick, smallest pet, largest pet and cutest pet. Held at Cassidy Park in Bogalusa on Saturday, October 7th starting at 10 a.m. sharp!
Washington Parish Fair Information
The Washington Parish Fair is right around the corner! There are many things to get involved with at the fair that involve 4-H. You can participate in the Youth Building craft projects, show livestock, or represent the Washington Parish 4-H program by being on your best behavior at the fair. Be sure to ask about the fair at your club meetings for entry forms and other fair information. This year the fair will be October 18th – 21st . See y’all there!!
Challenge Camp (7th & 8th Grade ONLY)
A great opportunity to build leadership skills and friendships across the Southeast Region. Camp will be held at the Lion King Retreat Center in Amite, La this year. There are a limited number of spaces for this camp so, there will be a selection process. Each member who is interested in going must write a short essay explaining why they would like to attend and how they would use their new leadership skills at their school. It must be email it in to Mrs. Beth by October 11th bblackwell@agcenter.lsu.edu Selections will be made the following week. There is a $60 fee associated with this camp.
4-H Pumpkin Decorating Contest & Fundraiser – (Check fair catalog for more details)
When: Pumpkin/Gourd Drop off will occur Tuesday, October 17th 2pm-6pm $3 entry fee
Where: Livestock Barn at the fair…..look for signs
